Alpha Omicron Chapter Scholarships

The Academic Excellence Scholarship will be divided into three categories in order to benefit and encourage the most possible members. Within each category, three scholarships will be granted, although the scholarship committee may see fit to alter this.

1. House Academic Excellence: awarded to the three members with the highest GPA during the Semester.

  • Must reside in the Pike House
  • Must complete at least 12 hours of credit that semester
  • Must proctor at least 5 “study hours” sessions

2. Academic Responsibility: awarded to the three members who proctor the most “study hours.”

  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA that semester
  • Must complete at least 12 hours of credit
  • Not required to reside in the Pike House

3. Academic Improvement: awarded to the three members who make the greatest improvement in their semester GPA from their previous semester.

  • Must achieve 3.0 GPA in the semester the scholarship is earned
  • Must complete at least 12 hours of credit
  • Must attend at least 60% of their required “study hours”

Pi Kappa Alpha Scholarships at Southwestern

The Earl Lee Moseley Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund

Earl earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Southwestern University in 1984, and during that time, became the first African-American member of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. The Earl Lee Moseley, Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund will provide future students demonstrating leadership and civic engagement with scholarship help that extends Earl’s legacy of service that changes lives. It is valued at $187,864.59.

Alpha Omicron Centennial Scholarship

The Alpha Omicron chapter celebrated our 100th year at Southwestern University in 2010. AO completed a fundraising campaign to endow the Alpha Omicron Centennial Scholarship Fund, which will distribute a need-based scholarship to an active AO brother annually. It is valued at $315,744.10.

Truman J Odiorne Endowed Scholarship

Truman Odiorne, a 1966 graduate of Southwestern, grew up in Johnson City, Texas. He was able to attend Southwestern due to an academic scholarship. According to his widow, he greatly valued his education and credited Southwestern’s small size and personal learning environment with his academic success as a chemistry major. A campus leader, Truman attributed many of his learned leadership skills to the variety of governance roles he served through his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha. It is valued at $6,468,630.95.

Pi Kappa Alpha Scholarships

John “Jack” Lux Scholarship

Awarded yearly to Pikes majoring in accounting or finance. Due April 30. Scott A. Mackler, MD, PhD, Medical School Memorial Scholarship A $3,000 annual award granted to a Pike studying medicine. Due April 30.

Robert D. Lynn Memorial Scholarship

Annually awarded to a Pike who demonstrates outstanding inter-fraternal leadership on campus. Due April 30.

Joseph Pavelka Scholarship

Awarded to a Pike completing an internship in Washington D.C. Due May 31
